Getting Settled in the BIG City of Charlotte

Well I am starting my first blog so that I and everyone else can keep up with what is going on during culinary school.. As many of you know I have been dreaming of becoming a chef since I was about four, standing in the kitchen stirring or mixing a pot with Meme or Gran, my grandmothers. Well I can finally say that my dreams are coming true. On Monday I start my first day of culinary school at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte. I will be earning a Pastry Arts degree.

I have gotten settled in, Charlotte is much bigger than Hawkinsville. This little country girl is getting used to city life. I may not have much of a yard and may not be able to see the stars, But

I have really enjoyed being able to look out and see the Skyline of Charlotte. This is a picture of Duke Energy, taken at the end of my block. This is an amazing building because most nights it changes color but since DNC has been here it has been the American Flag. Since the DNC has been going on in Uptown I have been trying to stay out of there. So I have been trying to explore the other places near by in Charlotte. Luckily Josh, my boyfriend, came to visit me for a few days before I started school, so I have a travel buddy as we explored South Charlotte and the many different neighborhoods near by my house. We found a few different dinner spots, like Mac's Speed Shop which is a BBQ joint that I recommend.

I start classes on Monday morning at 7 am, which really I start on Sunday morning at 8 for a Lab orientation. My first 9 days will be about "How Baking Works" and as it looks I will be making cookies and muffins on the first day. Which should be fun.

This is the First of MANY post. Hopeful I will get some pictures of my house and room up for y'all to see!!! If anyone has any recommendation of places to eat  and hang outs please let me know.

Until my Next Culinary Adventure,
Marti
